The notebook has always had a curatorial register and nowhere to think out loud. The Topics tree wants its notes weighed before they are shelved, which is right — and which quietly meant that anything provisional either got over-polished into a note or never got written at all. This shelf is the correction: a day-book beside the commonplace book, in the old sense of the ἐφημερίς — kept daily, close to the work, and not revised after the fact.
On the desk as it opens:
- The Problemata, re-audited. All fourteen went under review this week; several solutions had genuine errors — a shear speed quoted where a compression wave was meant, a door-ordering inverted in the pole-and-barn, the classic 4/3 trap in the box of light, and a parking figure that drew a kinematically impossible maneuver. All corrected, two new plates drawn. The lesson worth keeping: the errors clustered exactly where the prose was most confident.
- Relativity and Gravitation, still the spine of the season — the Kerr chapters are being bound, and the perturbation notes keep sending me back to fix their prerequisites.
- Chess training continues on its own shelf; the Training Sessions record speaks for itself.
