The δεῖπνον was the principal meal of the Greek day, and the one thought worth writing about: Athenaeus needed fifteen books of scholars talking over dinner. This region keeps a smaller table. It records meals eaten away from home that proved worth thinking about afterward: how the meal was composed, what the kitchen was attempting, and whether the table earned a return.
